Extended Single-Plate Shear Connections: LTB Considerations in Industrial Structures [C12] 2026

Extended single-plate shear connections aren’t always as simple as they appear, especially in industrial structures where lateral bracing is often limited. This session takes a closer look at the stability considerations behind AISC’s design provisions, focusing on rotational restraint and lateral-torsional buckling. Along with a brief review of connection behavior, we’ll examine how to apply Appendix 6 checks to evaluate overall bracing adequacy, and explore practical options to address the impact of reduced torsional restraint on both the connection and the beam.
