Rafael Sabelli, SE, is a Senior Principal and Director of Seismic Design at Walter P. Moore, and is a past President of the Structural Engineers Association of California. Rafael is recognized for his expertise in seismic design and steel structures. His experience includes design of new structures, retrofit of existing buildings, nonlinear seismic analysis, and the development of new structural systems. He is a member of the AISC Committee on Specifications, AISC task committee on the Seismic Provisions, and is the chair of the seismic subcommittee of the AISC Committee on Manuals.
He also serves on the ASCE 7 Main committee and on the seismic subcommittee. Rafael is the co-author of Ductile Design of Steel Structures, is the coauthor of AISC Design Guide 20: Steel Plate Shear Walls as well as of numerous research papers on conventional and buckling-restrained braced frames. In 2008, he was the recipient of the AISC TR Higgins Lectureship award. And in 2021, he received an AISC lifetime achievement award. He frequently lectures on behalf of AISC. |
