The AISC specification system for Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel was designed to assist the team of the architect, engineer and steel fabricator with the effective navigation of AESS projects. The system works to standardize the approach to design and detailing and allow the team to focus on the more challenging aspects. This presentation will look at the application of the method to a range of projects with a focus on the importance of connection detailing as it feeds into the selection of the most appropriate AESS Category for the project.
