Built-Up Press-Brake Formed Tub Girders (PDH) 2025
This presentation will focus on a new approach for the rapid fabrication of resilient steel bridges: built-up, press-brake formed, tub girders (PBTGs). Built-up PBTGs, as compared to PBTGs that are fabricated from a single steel plate, are made up of cold bent webs bolted to separate, flat, top and bottom flange plates. This approach is intended for longer spans (exceeding 60 ft), with the capability of providing deeper webs and variable flange thicknesses. The bolted-up section (i.e., there are no welds) offers enhanced resiliency through internal member redundancy.
The presentation will include an introduction to built-up PBTGs, with a focus on the behavior of two demonstration bridges built in Indiana. It will also introduce a kit-of-part system for wider industry adoption.
