Cost and Carbon Savings from Steel Reuse in Short-span Bridges [G10] 2026

County engineers across the country commonly reuse steel in short-span, low traffic volume bridges. Steel reuse enables cost savings of up to 53%, and dramatically reduces the carbon emissions associated with bridge replacement. This presentation shares case studies of steel reuse in bridges, highlighting enabling conditions and the broader potential for more widespread reuse.
