As buildings age, the need for effective structural evaluation and maintenance becomes increasingly critical. This seminar will introduce subjects from AISC’s new Steel Design Guide 16, Assessment and Repair of Structural Steel in Existing Buildings, which aims to introduce engineers to the process and provide several tools for structural assessment and repair of existing steel buildings. We’ll discuss common considerations for initial assessments and methods for detailed inspection, evaluation, and nondestructive examination. The seminar will explore several types of damage or deterioration commonly found in existing steel buildings and approaches for evaluating their structural effects. And we’ll wrap things up with practical advice for planning and executing repairs.
