Speakers

          

Thomas A. Sabol, SE, a senior vice president at WSP, specializes in the structural design of institutional projects, seismic rehabilitation of historic structures, and tall building wind engineering.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and graduate degrees from UCLA. He is a registered structural engineer and a licensed architect in California. Dr. Sabol is on the faculty of UCLA’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, where he teaches courses on tall buildings and structural steel.  He is a member of AISC’s Seismic Systems, Specifications and Research committees.

  Rafael Sabelli SE, PE, serves as the firm’s Managing Director for the San Francisco office as well as the Director of Seismic Design and oversees the seismic design of all Walter P Moore projects that include unconventional structural systems or reside in unusually high seismic locations. Rafael has decades of experience in the design of structurally challenging projects located within high seismic regions, with a focus in the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding areas. He is a key figure in the steel industry and led the effort to develop and adopt design procedures for buckling restrained braced frames that ultimately led to his being awarded the T.R. Higgins lectureship.
